Relating to cardiac assessments of participants in extracurricular athletic activities sponsored or sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, children wanting to participate in athletics are not obligated to receive an electrocardiogram as part of their physical before engaging in athletic activity. This bill would require that this happens as a precursor to playing UIL sponsored sports.

The bill would stipulate hardship circumstances under which a school district could delay a required electrocardiogram or echo cardiogram. A school district could waive electrocardiogram or echocardiogram requirements if a student's parent or a person standing in parental relation to the student submits a written request for a waiver for any reason.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill does not have a connection to our liberty principles, therefore we remain neutral.
