Bill Analysis

Under this bill, prior to a school district hiring a teacher candidate as a teacher of record, a candidate for certification may conduct their mandatory 15 hours of field experience up to two years prior to participating in an education preparation program through serving as a substitute teacher or teacher's aid for five school days or by another means that requires education instruction.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Expanding what qualifies as field based experience for the purposes of completing the requirements to earn a teaching certificate would add needed flexibility and make it easier to earn a certification without diminishing the quality of educator preparation. This affirms our principles of individual liberty and limited government, therefore we support this bill.
