Bill Caption

Relating to the continuation and functions of the Texas Board of Nursing and to the regulation of the practice of nursing.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would change the sunset date of the board to September 1, 2029.

The bill also would enact the Nurse Licensure Compact to create a multistate license for nurses practicing in party states to facilitate interstate practice of nursing. The compact would also authorize the sharing of disciplinary information regarding nurses’ licenses in party states and authorize all party states to take adverse action against a nurse’s multistate license for violation of state laws.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would further our limited government and free market principles by enacting the Nurse Licensure Compact to allow nurses to hold multistate licenses and practice nursing in different states with the same license. This gets rid of barriers to the market and would help remedy the access problem many areas in Texas have. For this reason, we support this legislation.
