Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, the governing body of a local government may contract with the governing body of another taxing unit or entity, including a county assessor-collector, to perform collections of certain assessments imposed by the local government. HB 2654 would add that a county assessor-collector who performs these duties is not personally liable as a result of exercising those duties.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill enhances our individual liberty principle by protecting a person from personal liability for simply carrying out their lawful duties as a public official. For this reason we support this bill.
