Bill Caption

Relating to an exemption for certain quarries from regulation as aggregate production operations.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, aggregate production operations are regulated by the state through registration and inspection, with a few exceptions. HB 2582 would add an exception for an extraction area producing specialty or terrazo-type stone for which the portion of stone that is exposed for current production for commercial sale in the site does not exceed five acres.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would ease the regulatory burden on small quarries. Though we believe these regulations should be removed in their entirety, this is a positive step forward in reducing regulation. We support HB 2582.
