Bill Analysis

This bill would prohibit the Texas State Board of Pharmacy from adopting rules prohibiting a pharmacist, pharmacy technician, or pharmacist intern from remotely accessing the pharmacy’s database to perform certain prescription processing functions.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would prohibit the Texas State Board of Pharmacy from adopting rules to regulate remote access of the pharmacy database, which furthers our principle of free markets and limited government. Individual pharmacies and pharmacists should decide whether to adopt remote access to pharmacy databases, it is not the role of the board to make regulations that could impede innovation and progress in the field. For these reason, we support this bill.
