Bill Caption
Relating to health benefit plan coverage for accelerated refills of certain prescription eye drops.
Fiscal Notes
From the LBB: no significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
HB 2262 would amend the Insurance Code to prohibit a health benefit plan that covers prescription eye drops from denying coverage for a refill before the established refill date. The plan most provide coverage for the refill that is dispensed on or before the last day of the dosage period.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill violates our free market and limited government principles by mandating coverage of prescription eye drops refills before the next dosage period. It is not the role of government to regulate voluntary agreements between private insurers and consumers. For these reasons, we oppose HB 2262.
