Bill Caption
Relating to workers' compensation death benefit eligibility for certain spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty.
Fiscal Notes
Dependent upon the number of surviving spouses of first responders made eligible under the bill
for workers' compensation death benefits, there would be an indeterminate cost to the State.
Bill Analysis
Last session the legislature passed a law allowed spouses of fallen first responders to continue receiving death benefits even after they remarry. However the provision only applied to spouses whose spouse was killed after the passage of that legislation. HB 2119 will apply last session's provision to all spouses of fallen first responders regardless of when the date of the spouse was killed.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill adds a very small number of individuals who were left out of the original legislation due to an oversight but who should have been included. This is basically a clean-up bill and we remain neutral.
