Bill Analysis

Under current law, the Texas Historical Commission exists to designate important locations and events in Texas history as well as foster tourism. HB 2079 would require the commission to create a Texas Music History Trail program that includes location designation, adoption of icons to identify designations, and the development of maps and itineraries to guide tourists to designated locations and organizations.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would infringe on the principle of limited government by creating and maintaining a trail program to recognize Texas music, which falls outside of the basic role of government. For this reason, we oppose HB 2079.
