Bill Caption

Relating to compensation of certain district judges for performing extrajudicial services.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, extrajudicial earnings of district and appeals court judges are counted toward the judges statutory salary cap. This bill would exclude extrajudicial earnings from the maximum salary allowed for a judge.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We see no particular reason why extrajudicial services performed on behalf of a county should count toward a judge's maximum salary. We have no objection to this bill's passage but also see no connection to our liberty principles and remain neutral.
