Bill Analysis
Under current law, the promotion of prostitution is considered a state jail felony. If HB 1667 passes, that same crime would be increased to a felony of the third degree.
Vote Recommendation Notes
Under current law, a person convicted of this crime could face up to $10,000 in fines and up to two years in prison. We oppose this bill because we view the increase in penalty to a third degree felony, which carries a minimum prison sentence of two years with the possibility of up to ten years, as disproportionate to the crime. For this reason we oppose HB 1667.
