Bill Caption
Relating to the acceptance of certain high school courses to satisfy part of the training required to obtain a peace officer license.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
This bill would require the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement to adopt rules and establish a procedure that would allow the successful completion high school courses to count towards hours of training required for a peace officer license. The high school courses would have to directly relate to law enforcement, and the student’s transcript would have to indicate that the applicant earned an endorsement in the public services category.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill would reduce barriers to entry into the profession of peace officers. Allowing students to earn certain credits and endorsements in high school would better enable them to excel in their career at a younger age. Reducing barriers to entry supports limited government and individual liberty so we support this bill.
