Bill Analysis

This bill would require each court clerk in the state to post self-help resources on the court’s website. The resources would range from lawyer referral services, to local legal aid offices, to resources on court-affiliated self-help centers. HB 1532 would also require the clerk of each court to post a link to the State Law library's website. Finally, each clerk would also have to conspicuously display a sign with the aforementioned information in a frequently accessed location in the clerk's office.

Vote Recommendation Notes

While it is questionable whether it is a legitimate role of government to supply self help resources to people who are otherwise capable of finding information on their own, the provisions of this bill do not appear to have any bearing on our liberty principles and we remain neutral.
