Bill Caption
Relating to qualifications for certain teachers employed by
open-enrollment charter schools.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
This bill would open the door for people to teach non-core level subjects at charter schools without a 4 year degree, as long as it is in an open-enrollment charter school that serves youth
referred to or placed in a residential trade center by a local or
state agency, and they have a certificate in whatever industry they would be teaching and has received 30 hours of training from the governing board of directors.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill expands the options a qualifying open-enrollment charter school has to fulfill the needs of its students. This bill upholds our limited government as it lessens regulation on Charter school. For this reason, we support this bill.
On a related note, while the state is enhancing flexibility for certain charter schools it would be beneficial to take an additional step and remove the cap for charter schools so that we can have more of them to the benefit of students and parents across Texas.
