Bill Caption

Relating to the reporting of political contributions and political expenditures by out-of-state committees.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would require an out-of-state political committee that does not file a campaign treasurer appointment to designate an officer of the committee to provide the notice to a candidate of expenditures.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This legislation would only further complicate an already complicated and technical aspect of campaign finance law that is questionable in the first place as to its value in providing transparency in elections. Furthermore, this legislation is likely unenforceable since it deals with political committees that are headquartered outside of Texas. Adding unnecessary and complicated laws violates our limited government principle, therefore we oppose HB 1379.
