Bill Caption

Relating to information included in the curriculum of each driver education course and driving safety course.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would require the Department of Public Safety, with consultation from members of law enforcement, to have their drivers education courses include the proper actions to take when it comes to traffic stops; as well as information pertaining to child passenger safety systems.

Vote Recommendation Notes

It is well within the proper role of the state to choose what is included in driver's education since it involves driving on Texas roads, therefore we are neutral on this bill. We suggest this bill could be improved by amending it to also include instruction on a person's rights when interacting with law enforcement during a traffic stop.
