Bill Analysis

HB 1284 would amend the Occupations Code to include installation work on equipment associated with the transmission and distribution of electricity from the electricity’s original source to a substation in the definition of “journeyman lineman”. Next, the Department of Licensing and Regulation would be required to develop an examination that tests an applicant’s knowledge.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill does not create a new occupational license but rather adds to the specific things covered under the definition of "journeyman lineman". Because this is mostly just cleaning up an area of statute that should already have included these definitions in the first place and not creating a new license or imposing new fees or other onerous barriers to entry for a journeyman linemen we remain neutral.
