Bill Analysis

SCR 31 would designate Hico as the official Steak Capital of Texas. This resolution cites that the annual Texas Steak Cookoff has had 100 cookers, 15 wineries, 70 vendors, and more than 6,500 guests in 2014. They cite that the festival had coverage by the Food Network. This resolution also cites that the Hico Economic Development Corporation manages the Texas Steak Cookoff with proceeds supporting the Hico Civic Club and the Memorial Scholarship Foundation. The Texas legislature designating Hico as the official Steak Capital of Texas would honor the city’s effort in annually hosting the Texas Steak Cookoff.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We considered supporting this legislation because there is no pork in it. However, upon further consideration this resolution neither affirms nor abridges our liberty principles, therefore we are neutral on SCR 31.
