Bill Caption

Relating to the establishment of an office of consumer affairs for children in foster care.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 830 creates a new office of Consumer Affairs for Children in Foster Care. This office would review complaints and inquires related to a child under the care of the state, investigate unreported complaints, and issue reports about trends of the inquiries that they receive.

Vote Recommendation Notes

In so far as the state is going to assume responsibility for children, the state has an obligation to ensure that those children are well cared for by the people in whose conservatorship they are placed. This bill would help to ensure better care for foster children. We support SB 830 and its House companion, HB 1371.
