Bill Caption

Relating to establishing an interstate voter registration crosscheck program.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated

Bill Analysis

The bill would amend the Election Code to require the Secretary of State to coordinate with other states and jurisdictions in order to develop systems to prevent the duplication of voter registration. A cross check is implemented with the intention of eliminating voter registration duplicates, and prevent voter fraud.

5/19/15 update:
HB 891 was a similar bill which did not receive a floor vote.

Vote Recommendation Notes

5/19/15 Update:

No amendments or modifications have been made to the bill since we reported on it.

First chamber analysis:

We support this legislation for the commitment to limited government, by participating in an existing solution to prevent duplicate voting profiles and ultimately working to eliminate potential intentional or unintentional voter fraud. This program works together with existing states, rather than setting up a complete new initiative.
