Bill Analysis

SB 737 would include trafficking as an offense that the magistrate may issue an order of emergency protection for a victim, guardian of victim, a peace officer, or an attorney representing the state. This bill would require that the victim receive the order not later than the next business day after the date the order was issued. The order would be able to be sent electronically or in any other manner that can be accessed by the recipient. This bill would require a centralized system for storing an order of emergency protection, rather than separate procedures for each municipalities.

Vote Recommendation Notes

SB 737 is a comprehensive attempt by the Texas Legislature at expediting orders of emergency protection. This would promote the individual liberty of victims to be protected from the individuals who have harmed them. We support the passage of SB 737.
