Bill Analysis

SB 674 would amend Education Code to require that instruction concerning mental health, substance abuse, and youth suicide in educator certification programs for new teachers be selected from the list of recommended best practice-based programs established under Section 161.325 (Mental Health Promotion and Intervention, Substance Abuse Prevention and Intervention, and Suicide), Health and Safety Code.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would make mostly administrative, clerical, and non-substantive updates to current code with no discernible connection to our liberty principles, therefore we are neutral on SB 674.  It would amend code to require selection of programs from a recommended list instead of a program developed by a panel of experts.
