Bill Caption

Relating to regional coordinators within the veteran entrepreneur program.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This legislation would amend Government Code, Section 434.022, to create regional coordinators for the veteran entrepreneur program at the Texas Veterans Commission. This bill also instructs the commission to work with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as the Small Business Administration to be certain no state initiatives are duplicating already existing federal programs.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This legislation creates regional coordinators for the veteran entrepreneur program. This is an existing program to which SB 660 would simply add some administrative responsibilities. According to the Fiscal Note the costs are expected be absorbed without allocating additional resources. Furthermore, this legislation specifically states these coordinators will work with federal agencies to make sure they are not duplicating efforts and programs already in place, which is favorable to reign in the size and scope of government by eliminating the potential for identical initiatives at different levels of government. We support SB 660.
