Bill Caption
Relating to requiring dental support for a child subject to a child support order.
Fiscal Notes
No fiscal implication anticipated.
Bill Analysis
SB 550 would amend multiple chapters of the Family Code by requiring
dental support for a child subject to a child support order. All child
support court orders would need to address dental support and order an
appropriate parent to provide dental insurance, or reimburse the other
parent for the cost of providing dental insurance. The dental support would be obtained at a "reasonable cost," meaning the cost of dental insurance premiums do
not exceed 1.5 percent of the obligor's annual resources.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill affirms the principle of personal responsibility. Supporting a child involves ensuring that their health is also a priority and financially handled. For this reason, we support SB 550.
