Bill Caption
Relating to limitations on annexation by and extraterritorial jurisdiction of certain municipalities.
Fiscal Notes
Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or
class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable
fiscal implication on units of local government.
Bill Analysis
SB 2016 would prevent a municipality from completely surrounding another municipality. The extraterritorial jurisdictions in question are the cities of Brownsville and Laguna Vista of Cameron County.
Vote Recommendation Notes
SB 2016 seeks to resolve a territorial dispute between Brownsville and Laguna Vista. Due to the local nature of this legislation and its disconnect to our liberty principles, we are neutral on SB 2016.
