Bill Caption

Relating to contributions and registrations for an anatomical gift registry; authorizing a fee.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to allow those who apply or renew a drivers license donate an amount not pre-established to the anatomical gift registry known as the Glenda Dawson Donate Life Registry Fund.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We support this legislation under the merits of individual liberty. Currently, nearly 15,000 Texans are waiting for an organ donation today. This legislation would allow those applying for a drivers license to donate to the Glenda Dawson Life Registry in an amount the donor sees fit rather than at a statutorily capped amount. We support this legislation for it's merits of enhancing Texans' liberty and donate to this cause. In commenting on past legislation we have been generally supportive of this fund.
