to the admission of undergraduate students with nontraditional

Bill Analysis
SB 1543 would amend Education Code regarding standards for students completing nontraditional secondary education. A provision would be added that states that an institution of higher education will place students who complete a nontraditional secondary education without high school graduating class rankings at or above the average high school graduating class rank of the undergraduate applicants.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill would affirm the principle of limited government, therefore we support this legislation. This prevents public higher education institutions from penalizing students who have chosen a nontraditional educational path (such as homeschoolers). A component of limited government is preventing abuse, which is why we support SB 1543.
