Bill Analysis

Under current law drivers are prohibited from leaving their vehicles unattended "without stopping the engine; locking the ignition; removing the key from the ignition; setting the parking break effectively; and, if standing on a grade, turning the front wheels to the curb or side of the highway."

This legislation seeks to update the law to allow for the legal use of remote starters.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We support this legislation for it's support of property rights and individual liberty. This legislation would amend current law to conform to the 21st century and affirm an individuals right to utilize a remote car starter that is installed in their vehicle.  This bill would allow those with remote starters to utilize this feature without risk of penalty or fine. For these reasons we support SB 1530.
