Bill Analysis

SB 1529 would revise the occupation code to make sure commissioned law enforcement entities are in compliance with the statutes that govern them. This bill would give the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement the authority to suspend law enforcement agencies or departments for failing in their duties to safeguard the community and their financial responsibilities to the State.

This bill puts into a place additional oversight into members of our communities who have been given the responsibility to protect us from harm. This bill promotes self-responsibility and self-sufficiency of law enforcement agencies and police departments. This is in line with our personal responsibility principle.
