Bill Caption

Relating to the power of a commissioners court to authorize ad valorem tax sales of real property to be conducted by means of online auctions.

Fiscal Notes

A fiscal note dated April 10, 2015 anticipates no fiscal implication to the State or units of local government.

Bill Analysis

Senate Bill 1452 would amend the Tax Code to allow a Commissioners Court of a county to authorize an officer charged with the ad valorem tax sale of real property to conduct a public auction using online bidding and sale.

Vote Recommendation Notes

According to the Author's statement of intent, some county courthouses are overwhelmed by foreclosure auctions due to nonpayment of property taxes, and using online bidding and sale concurrently to courthouse auctions would help them work through their backlog of delinquent properties.

To the extent that Senate Bill 1452 could help streamline courthouse auctions without adding additional costs, we support this bill.
