Relating to the exemption from length limitations of certain vehicles or combinations of vehicles used to transport harvest machines.

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This legislation would amend current law related to length-based road restrictions for certain farm related equipment.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would provide length restriction exemption for certain types of vehicles commonly used in agriculture for the purpose of transporting harvest machinery. This legislation reduces regulations so that businesses and Texans who transport harvesting machinery can do so more efficiently.

This does not set up a special class of vehicle owners for special consideration as a number of other types of vehicles already have the same or similar exemptions. This is because commercial and emergency response vehicles tend to be wider or longer than standard personal vehicles and without the exemptions these types of vehicles would effectively be prohibited from the road.

By broadening the scope of already existing length exemptions to include these harvesting vehicles, this legislation reduces the scope of government regulation. This supports our limited government principle.
