Bill Caption

Relating to the creation of a rural veterans mental health initiative within the mental health intervention program for veterans.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This legislation would amend the Health and Safety Code, Section 1001.202, relating to the development of a mental health intervention program for veterans. This legislation would require the Department of State Health Services to create a "rural veterans mental health initiative".  The fiscal note indicates that the bill can be implemented within existing resources.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We support this legislation to implement a program using already existing resources to provide assistance to veterans seeking mental help. While it is yet to be determined if these initiatives lowers or offset additional healthcare costs, we encourage innovative solutions to cutting costs on medial care, while increasing effectiveness and quality.
