Bill Analysis
This legislation would allow an Executive Committee to remove a precinct chair and allow the State Committee to remove a county chair from office if they have not fulfilled the duties in the statute, or missed four consecutive meetings. This legislation would require the Executive Committee or State Committee to send a certified letter explaining the reasoning for the removal from office, and request a response by the respective precinct chair or county chair no later than seven days from receipt of the letter. A vacancy would only be declared if the precinct chair county chair did not respond to the request within seven days stating a desire to continue in the position.

We support this legislation under the personal responsibility and individual liberty principles.This bill would allow a mechanism to remove political party precinct chairs and county chairs from office if they fail to fulfill the duties of their office or have not attended four consecutive meetings.
These positions should be taken seriously and if an individual fails to fulfill their duties in this office there should be a proper procedure to remove them from office, which this legislation addresses and would implement. The county and precinct chair positions are crucial to executing primary elections under state law. We support SB 1072.
