Bill Caption
Relating to criminal liability for certain federal motor carrier safety regulation violations; increasing a criminal penalty.
Fiscal Notes
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
This legislation amends the Transportation Code to create a $150 minimum fine and a $500
maximum fine for a Class C misdemeanor, for violating commercial motor vehicle safety
standards relating to brakes, tires, or load securement if the offense involves a violation of
specified federal commercial motor carrier safety regulations.
Vote Recommendation Notes
We are neutral on this legislation. While we understand the need for enforcing motor safety carrier laws, are unsure if these changes to the punishment fit the violations equally.
