Bill Caption
Relating to the creation of a childhood health program grant.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) indicates that if funding for the awards were available, administering the new program could be accomplished within existing resources.
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
The bill would amend Chapter 161 of the Health and Safety Code to require the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to develop and implement a grant program to support programs related to childhood health, fitness, and obesity prevention. The bill would authorize appropriations for the grant awards only in the form of gifts, grants, and donations received by DSHS.
Vote Recommendation Notes
The legislation would
not expand the cost of government. Since the bill neither abridges nor advances any of our liberty principles, we remain neutral on HB 711.
