Bill Analysis

This legislation would amend the Election Code to include new rules for which a voter registrar may terminate the appointment of a volunteer deputy registrar, specifically adding if avolunteer deputy intentionally destroyed or physically altered a registration application or engaged in any other activity that would conflict with the responsibilities of that role.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We support this legislation under personal responsibility. This bill would amend the Election Code to add an additional justification for a voter registrar to terminate a volunteer deputy registrar if they have found that the individual was involved or engaged in tampering with registrations.  Currently, the law is incredibly vague and does not provide a specific state of reasoning necessary to terminate someone or the reasons to do so. This legislation supports the personal responsibility principle, by making sure those who engage in tampering with the election process be held responsible for their actions.
