Bill Caption

Relating to an unlawful employment practice by an employer whose leave policy does not permit an employee to use leave to care for the employee's foster child.

Fiscal Notes

Based on information provided by the Texas Workforce Commission, it is assumed that duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Bill Analysis

This bill would amend the Labor Code relating to an unlawful employment practice by an employer whose leave policy does not permit an employee to use leave to care for the employee's foster child.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would protect the rights and responsibilities of a parent to take care of their children, adopted/fostered, from discriminatory employer policies. However, at the same time this would be a government mandate to private business. Due to this conflict we are neutral on HB 58.
