Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State or local government is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 530 would amend the chapter entitled “Forfeiture of Contraband” within the Code of Criminal Procedure to reflect changes on the disposition of forfeited property. This would allow a law enforcement agency to transfer not more than 10 percent of the gross amount credited to the agency’s fund to establish a fund to provide scholarships to children of peace officers who were killed in duty. A report of the fund disbursed would be reported to the attorney general each year.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This legislation would provide some transparency in government while at the same time subsidizing scholarships for private citizens. For this reason, we remain neutral.
