Bill Caption
Relating to the establishment of a pilot program in certain school districts to develop computer science education and professional development opportunities.
Fiscal Notes
There is no significant fiscal implication to the State.
Local Government
School districts participating in the pilot program would be required to
provide professional development and may be required to hire teachers.
These costs would be voluntary and would vary depending the size of
program implementation within the district.
Bill Analysis
HB 3700 would amend the Education
Code to require the commissioner of education develop and
implement a computer science development pilot program by
September 1, 2015. Students in participating school districts would
comply with the curriculum requirements for the third mathematics or science
credit of the foundation high school program by successfully completing an
advanced computer science course.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill has no discernible connection to the principles of liberty. It creates the option of a voluntary pilot program, so any cost of the program would be voluntarily assumed by the school district. We are neutral on HB 3700.
