HB 3082 increases the minimum amount of workers’ compensation
coverage for burial benefits from $6,000 to $10,000. The legislation requires
insurance carriers providing workers’ compensation coverage to either pay the
actual costs of funeral expenses or $10,000, whichever is less.
We are neutral on HB 3082 because it makes changes to workers’ compensation, which is a state run program that forces workers to participate. Currently, workers’ compensation restricts an injured worker’s access to the courts to file a suit. Worker's compensation does not currently operate in a free market environment so these updated regulations do not infringe on our free market principle.
