Bill Analysis

HB 2747 seeks to provide a clarifying update to code. The amendment would require potential jurors to note their county of residence to ensure the potential juror is still a resident of that county and also adds the requirement for United States citizenship.

Vote Recommendation Notes

The most important aspect of this bill is that it would require a juror to be a United States citizen which is currently not one of the statutory qualifications for jury service. In order to have an efficient and effective justice system it is important that jurors be citizens because citizens are more likely to be aware of the laws and cultural norms of our nation and our state. This is in alignment with our limited government principle. We support HB 2747.

The Senate sponsor is Senator Creighton.
