The
bill would amend Chapter 403 of the Occupations Code by transferring the
authority of licensing and regulation of dyslexia practitioners and therapists
from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to the Texas Department of
Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). The bill would also create the Licensed
Dyslexia Practitioner and Licensed Dyslexia Therapist Advisory Board consisting
of seven members. The advisory board would advise TDLR on technical matters
relevant to the administration of Chapter 403.
The
bill would require the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation to adopt
continuing education requirements, including the minimum number of hours of
continuing education required to renew a license under Chapter 403. The bill
would authorize the commission or executive director to impose an
administrative penalty against a person who violates Chapter 403 or a rule
adopted or order issued under Chapter 403 as provided by Subchapter F, Chapter
51 of the Occupations Code.
The
bill would also repeal 13 sections in Chapter 403 of the Occupations Code.
