Bill Caption

Relating to the territory that may be included in a single county election precinct.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Election Code to permit certain counties to combine county election precincts to avoid unreasonable election expenditures.

Bill Analysis

This legislation would amend Election Code to strike the authorization for the commissioners court or county executive committee of a political party for an election to combine county election precincts to avoid unreasonable expenditures for election equipment, supplies, and personnel.

The bill would allow precincts to be combined in a county with a population of less than 250,000 if the precinct has less than 500 registered voters and in a county with a population of 250,000 or more regardless of the number of registered voters in the precinct.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This legislation will likely reduce the cost of putting on an election in certain areas which supports our limited government principle. We support HB 2356.
