Bill Caption

Relating to occupational license application and examination fees for certain military service members, military veterans, and military spouses.

Fiscal Notes

According to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, this bill would reduce state revenue from occupational license application and exam fees. However, insufficient data exist to determine how much revenue would be forgone. Therefore, the fiscal impact of the bill cannot be estimated.

Bill Analysis

This legislation would waive any application or exam fees for veterans and certain family members who have an equivalent certification from the military, whose service, training, or education substantially meets all of the requirements for the license.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We support this legislation under the principles of limited government and individual liberty, as it removes barriers to occupational licensing for those who already have equivalent qualifications. We would support a broader reform to substantially limit occupational licensing, however, we realize that this is a step towards that reform.
