Bill Analysis

This bill seeks to allow ERCOT, LCRA, private schools pre-k thru 12, private or independent institutions of higher education, and volunteer fire departments to purchase information technology commodity items, such as hardware and software, from the Department of Information Resources for a reasonable administrative fee.

Vote Recommendation Notes

HB 2000 would allow for the Department of Information Resources to sell information technology commodity items through the department. This bill does not require the entities mentioned in the analysis to buy from the DIR, it simply allows them the option. Due to the administrative nature of this legislation which has no connection to our liberty principles, we are neutral on HB 2000.

The second chamber sponsor of this legislation is Senator Watson.
