Bill Caption
Relating to the regulation of certain motor vehicle auctions.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal impact to the State or local governments is expected.
Bill Analysis
This legislation would amend the Occupations code, and end the dual state agency regulation of the wholesale auto auction industry. Currently the sale of automobiles at auction is regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), but the sale of these automobiles must be licensed by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV).
Vote Recommendation Notes
We support this effort to amend the Occupations Code to reduce the duplicate regulation of auto auctions. The status quo represents unnecessary over-regulation which this legislation would correct and streamline. This supports limited government.
While considering the subject, the House may wish to consider doing away with licensing for auto auctions altogether.
