Bill Analysis

Summary: SB 993 would change the Texas Nonprofit task force, set to expire in September, to a permanent council subject to Sunset review. The task force currently exists to facilitate the efforts of and improve the relations between the state government and nonprofit community and faith organizations.

Analysis: This council would not represent an additional cost to taxpayers so it is not objectionable to our liberty principles. Additionally, nonprofit organizations often provide services to communities in a more efficient and effective manner than state programs. If this council could work towards boosting the effectiveness of these nonprofits, it could lead to a situation in the future that would allow the state to cut back on services that are better provided for by these private entities.
