Bill Analysis

Summary: SB 1773 would create an interim committee, of House and Senate members, to review the Texas Ethics Commission and file a report with reform suggestions before the next session.

Analysis: SB 1773 would create a more effective review process for the Ethics Commission than the Sunset Advisory Board. This committee would look at the policy of the Commission and its regulations, while Sunset review focuses on the efficiency of the agency. In other words, the committee would review the mission of the Commission, while Sunset reviews the efficiency with which the Commission carries out its mission. We support an effort to reevaluate and improve the Ethics Commission.
