Relating to the application of the open meetings law to the board of directors of certain tax reinvestment zones.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 244 would require the board of directors of a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone created under Chapter 311, Tax Code to hold public meetings and meet related requirements that govern such meetings.
Texas Action supports SB 244 as it increases government accountability and thereby promotes limited government. While we oppose the existence of Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones, so long as they do exist they should be subject to open meetings requirements.
