Relating to the creation of the office of inspector general at the
Texas Education Agency to investigate the administration of public
education.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 215 would establish the office of
inspector general as a division within the Texas Education Agency.
The commissioner would appoint an inspector general to
serve as director of the office who serves until
removed by the commissioner.
Texas Action supports SB 215 because it would promote limited government through additional accountability and an improved mechanism for investigating and dealing with waste, fraud, and abuse in the Texas public school system.
